The kitchen from the movie Nights in Rodanthe

The homes in the movies Nights in Rodanthe play a major role in move. Essentially 3 homes are shown; the home of Richard Gere, the home of Diane Lane and the house on the beach where most of the movie takes place.   Each home is supposed to reflect the spirit of the character. Diane Lanes home is orderly. It's nice but not too nice. It's predictable and safe in design choices. It's your typical, upper middle class suburban home.   Richard Gere's home is formal and traditional in design. Dark, rich woods of cherry and oak. Heavy, formal wall paper in traditional patterns and color combinations, white and navy, black and white, yellow and white. Formal furniture that is more for show and less for getting comfy.   The beach house on the other hand is the polar opposite of both these homes. Eclectic and whimsical the beach home's laid back design says it's OK to be surprising. Let your hair down, put your feet up, this home is all about living.     The kitchen is packed with charm. Bead board cabinets are painted an pale blue green and accessorized with glass handles. Alternating upper cabinets have glass doors and the shelves are lined with doily. On the lower cabinets doors were removed and replaced with floral fabric. It's precisely these personal touches that give the room it's warmth. The wallpaper has a retro feel to it. Rather than a formal kitchen island a weathered table provides both a work space and spot for eating. The kitchen décor consists of baskets, copper items, jugs and jars and dried fruit and wooden utencils. Appliances are retro and their presence kept to a minimum. This keeps the room homey and inviting.     How to get this look:   Try Woodlawn Blue by Benjamin Moore on the cabinets. For the knobs try Hafele's rounded star shape glass knobs. About $25 per knob. http://www.kitchensource.com/cabinet-hardware/ha-135.75.420.htm For the island try this Harvest Breakfast Table from Decorate to go: http://www.decoratetogo.com/6042538.html For wallpaper try Paisley by Sanderson http://www.sanderson-uk.com/DesignDetails.aspx
